Districts V, VI, VII parts of XIII.
District V
This is the main Downtown area. The Government buildings are located here,
including one of the major landmarks of Budapest , the Parliament Building .
The majority of the big hotels are located in District V, the Marriott,
Inter-Continental, Meridian and the Kepinski.
The stylish pedestrianised shopping street, the Vaci Utca is in the heart of
this district. Most of District V is along the Danube. This is where the
beautiful Chain Bridge can be found.
District VI
This is the next district eastwards from District V.In this district is one of
the major thoroughfares of Budapest, Andrassy Ut. lt stretches for 1½ miles and
ends at Heroes Square, a wonderful square with statues of the Kings of Hungary.
Within a short distance of Andrassy Ut is the West-End shopping centre; one of
the biggest shopping centres in Europe. The Hilton Hotel is located in this
shopping centre.
District XIII
In District XIII the most attractive buildings are well located in an area
bordered by the Great Boulevard and the Danube , and near the West-End shopping
centre. The inner boulevard runs from the chain bridge to the Liberty Bridge .
The outer boulevard runs from Margaret Bridge to Petofi Bridge .
Balaton
Lake Balaton, 77 kilometres (48 miles) long, is central Europe 's largest lake
and is only 100 KM (60 Miles) from Budapest . Often called 'the nation's
playground,' Balaton is a paradise for sailors, swimmers and paddlers; its flat
southern shore is lined with resorts and beaches, and its north coast with
vine-clad volcanic hills.
The lake is popular with visitors, both Hungarian and from elsewhere, who enjoy
the well-developed resorts and spas throughout the area. One of Hungary 's
great curiosities is the thermal spa of Héviz, a few miles from the western
shore of Balaton, where water lilies flower in winter on the surface of the hot
lake.
